Philip Dufous, was deeply impressed by scholarly views of Imam Khomeini and subsequently converted to Islam while he was only 27 years old.
Philip, also known as Amanullah became familiar with Imam’s philosophical thought while he was studying at Sorbonne University.
Henry Corbin (14 April 1903 – 7 October 1978) was a philosopher, theologian and professor of Islamic Studies at the Sorbonne in Paris and he taught Philip Imam Khomeini’s views about Mullah Sadra’s thought. Imam had great command over philosophy, jurisprudence, mysticism and several other Islamic sciences.
The French intellectual became appreciative of the great Imam and had opportunity to see the leader of the Muslim world closely during his stay in Nofel Loshato (Neauphle-le-Château). He maintains Imam was a great champion of the Muslim unity and he had a very distinctive characteristic and his services in this regard would be remembered forever.
Pundits believe Imam undertook serious efforts and practical steps to create unity among all Islamic sects and took practical steps to bring followers of all religions under divine flags.
This academic feature added that the great Imam did his best to reform the Islamic concepts which were distorted through passage of time and presented a correct interpretation of those notions in accordance with the teachings and school of thought of the holy prophet of Islam and his infallible prominent successor Imam Sadiq (peace be upon them).
Horiah Doufous, Philip ‘s wife who is an activist and journalist also says Imam sowed seeds of the Islamic awakening and raised awareness among the Muslim and oppressed nation during his stay in Nofel Loshato and years before and after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
She concluded that Imam could get across his message in various parts of the world despite staunch opposition by the colonial powers and western media outlets.
